Fort Benning WeddingWhether you are in the armed forces or marrying someone who is, Fort Benning is a beautiful place to host your guests and vow your love to one another. Full of rich history and unique sites, Fort Benning would be perfect for your wedding whether big or small. Below is a short background and description of a few of the venue options at Fort Benning.

The Infantry Chapel
The Infantry Chapel was dedicated in 1934 to four chaplains who gave their lives in World War II. As a torpedo hit their ship, the chaplains gave their life preserves to others. This beautiful chapel is also considered the main post chapel. With a stunning high dome, a spiral staircase, soft beige colored walls, and ornate molding this chapel would be the perfect backdrop for any wedding. Outside, is a lush green lawn with plenty of room for an outdoor tent reception.

The National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center
The National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center may seem like an unconventional place to hold your nuptials, but there is a chapel that can hold up to 120 people for an intimate wedding and two dining halls to host your reception. The Grand Hall is located under the “Last 100 Years” ramp which displays artifacts including helicopters and Bradley Fighting Vehicles and can comfortably hold up to 700 guests for a reception. The Colonial Room is a private dining room with a view of the parade field and Heritage Walk and can seat approximately 50 guests for an intimate reception or rehearsal dinner.

The Benning Conference Center
The Benning Conference Center formerly known as The Benning Club and The Officers Club has several ballrooms to choose from to host your event whether large or small. A large staff is there to help you coordinate your event including on-site catering. Located in the heart of Fort Benning it presents a beautiful setting for your event with ample parking to accommodate a large reception, ballrooms large enough for dinner and dancing, and a beautiful entrance for your guests.

The God Bless Fort Benning headquarters is almost complete and ready for the grand opening on November 17th. The Greater Columbus Home Builders association took the project on as a community service project. The cost to renovate 1106 Broadway into an information station for Military and their families is estimated at about $60,000 with about 100 volunteers doing the work. Read more

Callaway Gardens - Awesome! My wife and I have a year round pass that only costs about $100 for a car pass - you can bring 5 others with you. With it you can enjoy the gardens, beaches, butterfly center, birds of prey shows, walking and bike trails, and a multitude of other activities. We also attend their annual events like the Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival, Masters Ski Tournament, 4th of July celebration on the beach,  and Fantasy in Lights at Christmas.   I highly recomend Callaway!   Located at Pine Mountain about 30 miles north of Columbus.

Coca Cola Space Science Center - Simulated space missions and the Omnisphere theatre with laser light shows are highlights of this experience. This is a great place to take your kids and adults will have a good time as well. The inventor of Coca Cola was from Columbus and this is a fitting addition to our city. 701 Front Ave. Columbus Ga 31901 706-649-1470

Oxbow Meadows - Great nature trip! They actually have a suspension bridge that travels through the tops of the trees giving you a birds eye view of nature. The Creek Indians used this as their home in days gone past. Located on the Chattahoochee river at 3491 S. Lumpkin Rd. Columbus GA 31903 706-687-4090 Read more

My wife and I love to eat out so I thought I would list our top favorites for the area around Fort Benning.

1) Mikata - Japanese steak and sushi. Located just off Airport Thruway. First class in every respect. There are several Japanese restaurants in Columbus but Mikata is our favorite.

2) Chef Lee’s Chinese Restaurant - Located at Whitesville Rd. and Bradley Park Dr. - Ranked one of the top 10 Chinese Restaurants in America by more than one publication. It is something to see and the food and service is excellent.
